Description

The Magdalena, a collaboration with MacKintosh Yarn, was influenced by women's Medieval garments, and especially the painting "Mary Magdalene" by Dutch painter Jan van Scorel (1495-1562).
Magdalena is a modularly constructed pullover that begins with its cabled shoulder band and grows a collar, body, and sleeves from there. All parts except the cable bands both at the shoulder and the hem are worked in the round. The body and sleeves are worked from the top down allowing customized lengths.

Construction

Cabled shoulder band is knit lengthwise and joined. Stitches are picked up first at the shoulder for working the collar, which is then edged with applied cord. Body and sleeve stitches are picked up and worked from the lower edge of the shoulder band in the round, a short raglan section is worked, and the sleeves are placed on holders at the underarm. Body is completed in the round and edging is worked onto the lower hem perpendicularly. Sleeves are finished in the round. Styled for 2” [5 cm] positive ease.
