Description

The Jewel Cross-Rib stitch pattern featured in this design has a unique execution, and looks much more difficult than it really is. Adapted to knitting in the round, it makes a fun project in this headband and mitts set. Work the headband first and you’ll have the pattern down by the time you work the mitts.



Finished Measurements

Mitts: 7” [18 cm] palm circumference; 7” [18 cm] long
Headband: 18.75 (19.75, 21, 22.25, 23.25)” [47.5 (50, 53.5, 56.5, 59) cm] circumference; 3” [7.5 cm] wide



Materials

•Worsted weight yarn: approx 75 yds [68.5 meters] for headband, 120 yds [109.5 meters] for mitts
• US size 5 [3.75 mm] 16” circular needle (2) or size needed to achieve gauge
• US size 4 [3.5 mm] dpn set of 4
• Darning needle
• Stitch markers
• Stitch holder or scrap yarn



Gauge

24 sts & 40 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in Jewel Cross-Rib Patt after blocking



Skills Used

Knitting in the round, increases, decreases, picking up stitches, gusset, attached I-cord, knitted cord BO, Kitchener cord join


Yarn Used: Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool): 220 yds (201 m), color #823



Construction

Mitts are worked from the cuff up to the fingers in the round with thumb gusset.
Headband is worked in the round.
